Mass Education is very important in Bangladesh
By "Mass Education" we mean education for the illiterate mass of our country. This programme aims at impartial knowledge of letters to the illiterate, with a view to making them conscious and responsible citizens, making them capable of reading, writing and doing simple calculations. It is mass education that makes people know what is right and what is wrong and makes them conscious of their rights and duties.
In order to make the country self-sufficient, to make people happy, to make people, especially farmers aware of modern science and technology and above all to make them aware of the control of population explosion, mass education is a burning need. There will be no development if the masses are indifferent to the problems of the country. It is for all these that mass education is badly necessary for Bangladesh.
Many phases of steps were taken for this purpose at different times. A scheme for training one teacher from a high school and one teacher from a college at the Education and Research Centre in Dhaka was taken. National information media took extensive programmes in respect of mass education. Present Government is also taking efforts for it. Primary education has been made compulsory.
However, the mass literacy campaign should be further strengthened. Opening a night school in every village should be made compulsory. The poor illiterate people should be supplied with books, Kliatas and pencils. The teachers should be encouraged to teach them with satisfaction. We should also take all necessary for Its bright success.
Education is light, ignorance is darkness and illiteracy is a curse. We are a free nation. We like to live with honour and dignity. We do not like to grope in the darkness with the curse of illiteracy on our heads. Let us all go ahead to make our country a land of light, knowledge and happiness and of prosperity.
