Tree Plantation (বৃক্ষরোপণ) Or, Importance of Planting Trees (বৃক্ষরোপণের গুরুত্ব)
Introduction: Trees are our best friends. Our life and existence on earth depend greatly on trees. Trees give us food and shelter. They make our soil fertile. They save the land from erosion. Trees give us oxygen and keep our environment balanced. So trees are, as such, part and parcel of our life.
Uses of trees: The most important thing that we get from trees is oxygen. We inhale oxygen from the air which is provided by trees. Trees maintain the ecology of a country. They help cause rainfall and thus save our country from deforestation. We get our major food products from trees. We get our clothing materials also from trees. Rural houses are made of trees. We get our furniture from wood. Many life-saving drugs are also made from trees. Trees give us so many things that we cannot think even for a single moment without trees.
Time and place of plantation: Trees can be planted all year round, but the rainy season is suitable for planting trees. We can plant trees in the vacant places of our houses, offices, schools, colleges, and hospitals. Sea beaches and low-lying areas can be brought under the scheme of afforestation with special types of trees suited to the soil. Shady trees and fruit trees can be planted on either side of the roads and highways. Trees may be planted on all sides of ponds and 'dighis' in the villages.
Steps and initiatives to be taken: Illiterate people of the villages of our country are not aware of the importance of tree plantation. They should be motivated properly. Govt officials with proper knowledge of afforestation and plantation may take initiative to popularise tree plantation. It is a hope that our govt has already started launching tree plantation as an expedition and observing tree plantation week every year. So many nurseries are available to supply various types of trees and seeds at a minimum cost.
Cutting of trees and its impact on the environment: It is disappointing that our people are cutting trees at random for many domestic uses. For this reason, we are losing our forest day by day and if this is continued our country will turn into a great desert. There will be no rain and the country will face a great crisis because our agriculture is dependent on rain. Floods and many other natural calamities will be increased.
Conclusion: Trees are our lifelong friends and become a part and parcel of our national life. So we should plant more and more trees to sustain the ecology of our environment and strengthen the backbone of our economy.
